Statistical proof that hockey is a growing sport in Southern California isn’t plentiful but the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League readily offers up a slice.

The six-year old league sponsored by the NHL team continues to explode in participation. Thirteen new teams will be added for the coming 2014-15 season, swelling its membership to 41 that will stretch across five divisions.

The newest surge comes off a year in which the league doubled in size from 14 teams to 28 in 2013-14. Charter member JSerra Catholic in San Juan Capistrano launched the ADHSHL in 2008.

And the league has now stretched far beyond its Orange County base. A new six-team Western Prep Hockey League was created with squads from Phoenix, Colorado Springs and Hamilton, Ontario competing with present ADHSHL teams.

Other teams are from San Jose, San Diego, Palm Springs and Ventura County.

“Year after year we are amazed at what the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League has become,” said Art Trottier, who runs The Rinks – seven ice and in-line surfaces that the Ducks manage from Lakewood to Corona.

“The Western Prep Hockey League specifically will help showcase the growth and strength of California hockey to the rest of the country and beyond.”

JSerra, Santa Margarita and Bellarmine College Prep of San Jose will compete concurrently within the Western Prep League and the ADHSHL’s Varsity Division 1. A breakdown of the league are as followed:
